Dear HCP-Northrop Families,

I am so excited to welcome you and your students to Hiawatha College Prep-Northrop next school year! We will kick off the 2019-20 school year on August 22, 2019 for rising 5th graders and August 26, 2019 for rising 6th graders! We are fortunate to be located at 4640 17th Ave S, Minneapolis in a new building with plenty of space for our school to grow!

HCP-Northrop seeks to educate our students differently for an ever-changing world. Our school is based on these core beliefs:

  • Strong Community. Students and staff are given opportunities every day to foster deep, trusting relationships. We do this through Crew class every day, a time to cultivate friendships and learn habits of work and habits of mind to help our students succeed. Families are important partners in our program too, and we try to meet with families twice per month at our Family Breakfasts, and Family Engagement Nights.
  • Equity. Time is devoted each day to knowing ourselves, our diverse communities, and each other well. We devote time and learning to support each other in order to build a more equitable world. We do this through an integrated social studies and English curriculum, projects and guest speakers.
  • Agency and Action. Our school program gives students structured choice about:
    What they learn
    How they learn
How they show what they know
How to impact the school and their communities in ways they believe in
  • Academic Excellence. Our school is based on the knowledge that deep relationships, strong investment in productive choices, and outstanding instruction, are all necessary for students to be academically prepared for college and life beyond. We strive to prepare our students for success in college and beyond!

I cannot wait to start this journey with you and your student. Together, we are going to have an incredible school!
