By our projections, over the next ten years Hiawatha Academies will double its enrollment to serve more than 2,400 scholars, which is estimated to be 5% of all South Minneapolis public school students.
Hiawatha Academies will open its fifth school (and second middle school) Hiawatha College Prep-Northrop in the fall of 2018! Middle school scholars will move to the new building on the Northrop campus where Hiawatha Collegiate High School was previously housed.
Hiawatha Collegiate High School will move to its permanent location, 3500 E. 28th St., Minneapolis, MN 55406. Beginning in the 2018-19 school year, 475 scholars will be enrolled and the school will grow each year until it reaches capacity in the 2025-26 school year.
In the fall of 2015, Hiawatha Academies opened its fourth school, where advancing 8th graders from Hiawatha College Prep began their high school experience. It opened its doors to 104 9th graders in August and is temporarily being housed within the HLA-Northrop campus.
At the end of the 2014-2015 academic year, Hiawatha College Prep advanced its first eighth grade scholars to high school.
Two years later, in 2013, Hiawatha Academies opened our third school (and second elementary school), Hiawatha Leadership Academy-Northrop (HLA-N) serving grades K-1. The school was initially opened in a wing of our first school Hiawatha Leadership Academy-Morris Park.
In 2011, Hiawatha Academies opened our second school on the corner of West 38th Street and Pleasant Avenue South in the Kingfield neighborhood of Minneapolis, serving grades 5-8. In 2007, seven teachers and 140 kindergarten and first-grade scholars opened the first Hiawatha Leadership Academy in the annex classrooms of St. Joan of Arc church in Minneapolis.
