Raising sexually healthy children goes beyond having “the talk.”

That’s why Family Academy in November/December is focusing on topics related to sexual health, in partnership with Comunidades Latinas Unidas en Servicio (CLUES).

The sessions will be held 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays on Nov. 13, Nov. 20, Nov. 27, Dec. 4 and Dec. 11 at Hiawatha College Prep-Kingfield, 3800 Pleasant Ave., Minneapolis. The sessions are for HCP-K, Hiawatha Leadership Academy-Morris Park and Hiawatha Collegiate High School families.

Families will have the opportunity to learn how to strengthen communication skills when it comes to talking about taboo topics, such as sex. They also will gain tools to answer children’s questions and how to seize “teachable moments” in daily life to better share information and discuss values.

Free dinner, child care and interpretation will be provided.
