Prevention workshop and learning

Hiawatha has chemical and mental health teaching standards at the middle and high school level that promote healthy life choices including use/abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.

Middle schools

HCP-K 7th and 8th grade opted in for Know the Truth Program for prevention learning and have individualized support for scholars as needed. HCP-N scholars have access to social workers for identified cases of chemical abuse. Scholars are also educated on this topic in advisory.

High school

9th and 10th-grade HCHS partners with Mental Health by NAMI and have completed the Chemical Dependency Psychoeducation learning. Each grade level started Mental Health 101 Training on November 14, 2022.
