What is ACCESS testing? Who is eligible for ACCESS testing?
Federal and state legislation requires an annual English language proficiency assessment of all English Language Learner (EL) students called WIDA ACCESS.
ACCESS takes approximately one day to complete and must be conducted in a physical location. This year, because of distance learning and Covid considerations, we are asking parents to share whether or not they would like their child to attend school in person for one day to participate in testing. We will be following all covid protocols to ensure your child’s safety.
Why should my child take the test? What will we learn from the results?
Although optional, it is important during distance learning to assess your child’s progress. This assessment is used to monitor EL students’ academic language skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening). Teachers use these scores to understand student progress, plan instruction, and determine if a student is eligible to exit from an English language program. This test has no impact on your child’s grades, credits, promotion, or post-secondary options.
How do I register for ACCESS testing?
To register for the testing, please enter in your information in the form below. We will notify you of the date/time and place for testing soon after.
When will my child take ACCESS?
The WIDA ACCESS testing will take place at a Hiawatha Academies campus between February 8, 2021 and April 9, 2021. More detailed information to come.
