MINNEAPOLIS – On April 26, Hiawatha Academies invites families to learn more about its new middle school, Hiawatha College Prep-Northrop (HCP-N). The new middle school campus, which is set to open in the fall of 2018, will welcome 90 fifty grade scholars next school year, and will grow to a full capacity of 360 scholars in grades fifth through eighth over the next four years.
The middle school is the last to open as part of Hiawatha Academies’ strategic plan to grow to five schools serving 2,400 students in kindergarten through twelfth grade.
Hiawatha College Prep-Northrop will lead some of Hiawatha Academies’ innovation work as part of a long term plan to ensure all students are not only demonstrating academic excellence but also preparing them for the twenty first century. The school will focus on building skills to navigate an ever-evolving world that requires them to think critically, solve complex problems, and work across lines of difference.
“It’s been great to connect with so many of our current Hiawatha families”, said, HCP-N, Principal, Sherene Judeh. “I’m looking forward to opening a school where students have strategies and choices about what and how they learn. HCP-N will be a school where every child is known well and supported to achieve academically and socially.”
Ms. Judeh, joined the Hiawatha Academies family last July, to prepare for the opening of HCP-N. Over this past year, she has been intentional about ensuring that Hiawatha Academies’ families, students, and staff are engaged in shaping the vision for the middle school. The event on April 26th will be an opportunity to share more about the space, the academic program, the vision, and to continue to make relationships with HCP-N families and community members.
