Hiawatha Academies celebrates its 10-year anniversary

Governor Mark Dayton proclaims Saturday, June 10th, Hiawatha Academies Day

MINNEAPOLIS – On Saturday, June 10th, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Hiawatha Academies will welcome hundreds of families and community members to celebrate 10 years of working towards closing the educational opportunity gap for all children. During the main program at 1:00 p.m., Hiawatha Academies will showcase the day as proclaimed by Governor Dayton, as Hiawatha Academies Day.

In addition to the Governor’s proclamation, the program includes guest speakers Sandy Vargas, former President and CEO of the Minneapolis Foundation, Margarita Dimas Cultu, Hiawatha Academies Board Chair, Alondra Cano, Minneapolis City Council Member, and Cynthia Smith, Hiawatha parent and community leader.When scholars learned the Governor had proclaimed a Day for Hiawatha Academies they were very excited. When scholars learned the Governor had proclaimed a Day for Hiawatha Academies they were very excited. In the words of tenth-grade scholar, Yessi Piza Gonzalez, “It’s really great to see that the Governor recognizes my school and all of us students as future leaders of Minnesota”.

The celebration is free and open to the public. There will be food, games, music, talent, and a lot of joy to share.
