Family literacy coordinator

This Americorps VISTA volunteer will develop a parent-teacher team model and training materials to share information and resources with families in order to boost scholars’ literacy development. Learn more and apply.

Literacy tutor

Do you enjoy working with elementary-age scholars? Do you believe that all children have the potential to be excellent readers? Consider volunteering as a literacy tutor in our elementary schools! Literacy tutors support teachers in providing one-on-one support to scholars in reading. Learn more.

Extracurricular clubs

Do you have a hobby, interest, or skill that you’re passionate about and would love to share with young people? Consider volunteering as a weekly extracurricular club adviser or helping with another scheduled opportunity to share your passion with ninth-grade scholars at Hiawatha Collegiate High School! Eighth block

Do you enjoy helping young people discover and grow their passion for learning new subjects? Consider volunteering to support middle school scholars in unique eighth block classes at Hiawatha Collegiate Preparatory. Eighth block volunteers support teachers in helping scholars with subjects like math, reading, theater arts, journalism and Lego Robotics. Learn more.

Interested in chatting with high school scholars about your career? Schedule a time to come in during lunch for a discussion about college and career paths at our high school.

Lunch monitor

Interested in practicing your management skills? Lunch monitors have the opportunity to engage with scholars outside of the classroom, facilitate a safe and joyful lunchtime for scholars and get to know our staff members. Our lunchrooms are fun and lively places to be! Lunch takes place from 11:45 a.m. to 1:20 p.m. at HLA-Morris Park and 12:15-1:20 p.m. at HLA-Northrop. Please fill out an interest form for more information or an application if you’re ready to get started right away.
